KPIG’s Weekly Specialty Shows!

Besides spinning lots of great music, here at KPIG we have lots of great weekly happenings featuring interviews (and music) from both local and touring artists, special live recordings, and behind-the-scenes stories on your favorite pig artists. Here’s a list of what’s on and when:

Please Stand By – Sundays 10:00am to noon
Hosted by “Sleepy” John Sandige and his able-bodied crew, this long-running favorite (they’ve logged more than 1000 shows) features two hours of live music each Sunday morning. You might hear a local songwriter, a touring pig artist, or even the chorus from a local theater production – quite often all in the same morning.

PSB Update: Sleepy John is currently running “Please Stand By” as a “best of…” series featuring recorded performances from years past, along with phone interviews with many of the guests. We’ll continue the show as a live, in person show when situations permit.

Sunday Chill – Sundays from 1:00 to 6:00pm
Kiana, the youngest DJ in the sty, does an afternoon shift each Sunday afternoon. It’s an afternoon of your favorite pig music, cherry picked by Kiana with her own commentary on the artist. (Kiana has been listening to KPIG her entire life. Good parenting right there, that is.)

Sunday Night Dead – Sundays 6:00-9:00pm
The long strange trip comes to the Pig on Sunday nights with Sunday Night Dead. Three hours of Grateful Dead and Dead family music, with your guide Grateful Don Potter.

Reverend Billy C. Wirtz Blues Show – Sundays 9:00-10:00pm
Spend an hour each week with one of our favorite pig artists, who’s also quite the scholar in old-school rhythm and blues. You’ll learn a bit of music history, and you’ll be healed by Billy’s rhythm revival.

Upstream with the Pig – Tuesdays (usually once a month) from 6:00 to 7:00pm
A pig artists livestreams on our Facebook page, usually in conjunction with our “Fresh Pork Chops” CD of the week. Check out the archive here, watch our Facebook page and website, and listen into the pig for info abour our next exclusive online concert.

Fresh Pork Chops – Weeknights 7:00pm
Tune in every weeknight as Ramblin’ Ror’ spins two songs from a new pig release – and get a chance to win a copy for your very own self.

Neighborhood Night – Wednesdays 9:00-9:30pm
Jamie Coffis or a guest host hangs with a fellow pig artist every week. All the important issues of the day facing musicians are discussed including tour van napping techniques, drink ticket delegation secrets and of course, helpful tips for avoiding loading out the drums.

Fried Comedy News – Weekdays at 6:30 and 8:30am
Two helpings daily as comedian Richard Stockton serves you California stories in 60 – 90 second comedy and music rants that lampoon, satirize and joke-a-fies news from the Left Coast.

NN Update: Jamie is currently running this show with phone interviews. We’ll pick it up with live, in-studio guests as soon as we can. You can listen into some of our past interviews here on the archive.

Revolving/Petty Lane – Saturdays 6:00-7:00pm
Hosted by Jamie Coffis each week he takes a deep cut look at two of his favorite artists, The Beatles and Tom Petty. He’ll dive into Petty one week with “Petty Lane,” then tackle The Beatles the next week with “Revolving”. You never know what you’ll hear: Interview snippets, live takes, or just insights from Jamie.

Always educational and always a way fun listen. Both of these artists were a big influence on Jamie and The Coffis Brothers, so you’ll get a look at these two from another musician’s perspective.

Alternate Roots – Saturdays 8:00-10:00pm
KPIG goes unplugged each Saturday night, with a good pig heaping of alternate roots, bluegrass, and more. Hosted by Choo Choo Charlie, a bonafide second-generation pig. His grandfather, Cousin Al, hosted KPIG’s Sunday night’s bluegrass show for decades. In fact, Charlie used to tag along with his grandpa and carry albums up the stairs here at the station. A doorway here at the sty has pencil marks as Charlie literally grew up here at KPIG.
